About Tillier's Regiment of Foote
Tillier's Regiment of Foote proudly stands as part of the Royalist Army, a branch of the Sealed Knot—the UK’s oldest reenactment society and Europe’s largest.
How did we get here?
Imagine a lively garden party in February 1968, with guests dressed in cavalier costumes, celebrating a new book on the Battle of Edgehill. Amid the laughter and historical chatter, Brigadier Peter Young and his friends sparked an idea that would change their lives forever: forming a period army. What began as a dream soon became a reality, and within two years, more than a thousand people joined.
Fast-forward more than five decades, and the Sealed Knot's ranks have grown to form Europe’s largest reenactment society, including Tillier's Regiment of Foote.
Our mission? Not to glorify war but to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives in the English Civil War - to honour their memory and educate the public about these historic battles. Together, we bring to life the stories and times of an era that helped shape the world, just as Peter Young and his friends did for our community. And, of course, we have a lot of fun along the way.
